Download & Install

Get started with Resolver by downloading and installing the Visual Components ConnectorSoftware plugins, developed by RTR, that enables the export of projects from 3rd party simulation tools such as Process Simulate and Visual Components for use with Resolver. The Connector also enables....

Before You Begin​

  • You need a Resolver account — the Connector download is behind the login. If you do not have one, request an account first.
  • You need a supported Visual Components installation — see system requirements.
  • Close Visual Components before you install. Both installation methods require it.

Download​

Log in to your region-specific Resolver page, then open Downloads at the bottom of the left sidebar.

The installers page lists a card per connector.

Click the Default button on the Visual Components card to download the latest version.

If you previously tried to use the Connector with Visual Components 4.10.2 on a Connector older than 1.18.0, reinstall Visual Components before installing this version. Older Connectors overwrote DLLs shipped with Visual Components; 1.18.0 and later no longer do, but an installation already affected has to be repaired. Users on VC 4.9 or 4.10.1 can update the Connector as usual.

After downloading, there are two ways to install the Connector:

Windows Installer (Preferred)​

  1. Close Visual Components before continuing.

  2. Unzip the downloaded file and double-click RTR-VC-Connectors-Setup.exe to launch the installer.

  3. Select whether to install the Connector for the current user or all users.

  4. Read and accept the License Agreement.

  5. Click Next, then select Install to existing version or versions.

  6. Choose the installation folder for the ConnectorSoftware plugins, developed by RTR, that enables the export of projects from 3rd party simulation tools such as Process Simulate and Visual Components for use with Resolver. The Connector also enables.... The default (C:\Program Files) is recommended.

  7. Select the Visual Components version(s) to install to.

  8. Click Install, then click Finish once the installation is complete.

  9. Open Visual Components. The Connector adds itself to the Program tab of the ribbon automatically.

    If it is not there, add it manually: open the dropdown at the top-right corner of the UI and tick Realtime Robotics Connector.

Legacy Installation (Manual DLL Registration)​

Follow these steps only if you need to manually place the DLL files into the Visual Components folder. This is not necessary if you used the Windows Installer above.

  1. Close Visual Components before continuing.

  2. Unzip the downloaded file and double-click RTR-VC-Connectors-Setup.exe to launch the installer.

  3. Select whether to install the Connector for the current user or all users.

  4. Read and accept the License Agreement.

  5. Choose Extract files for manual installation.

  6. Choose the folder where you want the files to be extracted.

  7. Select the Visual Components version(s) you need.

  8. Navigate to the extraction folder you specified.

    Make sure you open the correct subfolder for the Visual Components version you intend to use — Connector files differ between versions.

  9. You will see all the Connector files in the folder.

  10. Copy all the files to the appropriate Visual Components installation folder, for example:

    C:\Program Files\Visual Components\Visual Components 4.10\
    tip

    Replace 4.10 with the version number that matches your installation.

  11. Open Visual Components. As with the installer, the Connector is added to the Program tab automatically; if it is missing, tick Realtime Robotics Connector in the dropdown at the top-right corner of the UI.

Verify the Installation​

Whichever method you used, confirm the Connector loaded before you go further — a partial install usually surfaces later as a confusing export error.

  1. Open Visual Components and check the Program tab of the ribbon for Realtime Robotics Connector.
  2. Open the Connector, then select ☰ → About... and confirm the version matches the installer you ran. The version is also shown along the bottom edge of the Connector panel.

Make a note of that version — Support will ask for it.

The Connector Menu​

The menu button (☰) in the top right of the Connector holds everything that is not part of the export or import flow.

  • Settings... — general and export settings, described in Export a Study.
  • About... — the installed Connector version. Quote this when contacting support.
  • Check for updates... — checks whether a newer Connector is available.
  • Clear cache and Save Logs — useful when troubleshooting, and Support may ask for the logs.

The Connector version is also shown along the bottom edge of the panel.
